    Fact Checking Policy

    Last updated: 10 September 2026

Our readers use what we publish to make decisions with real financial and personal consequences. This page explains how we check what we write.

    1. The hierarchy of sources we use

We work from the most authoritative source available, in this order.

Official government and regulatory sources — labour ministries, immigration and visa portals, transport and licensing authorities, social insurance bodies, and published law. These take precedence over everything else.

Official institutional sources — a company’s own website for facts about itself, or a sector body for structural information about an industry.

Established reporting, used only for context and never as the basis for a legal or procedural claim.

Community knowledge, forwarded messages, agent claims and anecdote are not sources. They are frequently the very thing our articles are written to correct.

    2. Checks applied before publication

    • Claims about entitlements and procedures are described at the level the source supports, and where a figure changes over time we direct readers to the current official position instead of stating a number that may date.
    • Links are verified before publication. We link only to domains we have checked resolve, and we do not publish a link we have not confirmed exists.
    • Company facts are limited to what is publicly and verifiably true. We do not invent headcounts, pay scales, vacancy numbers or company policies.
    • Pay information is described structurally and labelled as indicative. We do not present advertised ranges as official scales.
    • Status of projects and systems is checked against current sources rather than written from memory, since infrastructure and policy change.

    3. What we deliberately do not claim

We do not claim that a specific vacancy exists. We do not claim to know what a particular employer pays. We do not claim that a visa or licensing rule is settled when it is subject to change. And we do not claim affiliation with any organisation we write about.

Where we are uncertain, we say so and tell the reader where to check. We regard “verify this with the authority yourself” as a more useful sentence than a confident guess.

    4. Keeping content current

Employment, immigration and licensing rules change. An article that was accurate at publication can become misleading later. We revise content when we become aware that the position has moved, and we update the revision date when we do.

Readers can help. If you find something out of date, tell us at guide@lakecountyfloridanews.com.

    5. Reporting an error

Our Corrections Policy explains how to report an error and what we do about it. Errors that could lead a reader to financial harm are treated as urgent.

    6. Accountability
