We publish guidance that people use to make decisions about work, travel and money. Getting something wrong has consequences for readers, so we treat corrections seriously rather than quietly.
1. Our commitment
When we publish something that is inaccurate, incomplete or misleading, we correct it promptly and we say that we have done so. We do not delete an article to make an error disappear, and we do not edit a mistake out silently.
2. What counts as a correction
Correction — a factual error in the published text. The text is fixed and a dated correction note is added to the article explaining what was wrong.
Clarification — the text was accurate but capable of being misread. The wording is improved and, where the misreading was material, a note is added.
Update — the article was accurate when published but circumstances have changed, for example a rule or a procedure has been amended. The article is revised and the revision date updated.
Routine editing — spelling, grammar, formatting and link maintenance. These are made without a note, because they do not change meaning.
3. How to report an error
Write to guide@lakecountyfloridanews.com with the following, which lets us act quickly:
- The title of the article
- The passage you believe is wrong, quoted or described
- What you believe the correct position is
- A source supporting it, where you have one — an official government page is ideal
You do not need to give a reason for asking, and you do not need to identify yourself beyond an email address we can reply to.
4. What we do next
We acknowledge substantive reports and check the point against primary sources, preferring the official government source in the country concerned. If you are right, we correct the article and add a dated note. If we conclude the article is accurate as written, we tell you why.
We aim to deal with reports within a few working days. Where an error is serious — for example something that could cause a reader financial harm — we treat it as urgent.
5. Errors we treat as most serious
- Anything that could lead a reader to pay money to a fraudulent recruiter
- Incorrect statements about a legal entitlement, a visa requirement or a licensing rule
- A broken or wrong link to an official verification source
- Anything that misstates what an employer or authority requires of a worker
